The Collapse of 2008
The truth is, The Sales Lion came as a direct result of the economic collapse of 2008. Marcus Sheridan’s swimming pool company was on the brink of going out of business and so in order to save it, he threw himself into what is commonly referred to as “Inbound and Content Marketing.”
To make a long story short, these efforts turned River Pools into what is today the most trafficked swimming pool website in the world, garnering over 500,000 visitors a month.
Because he quickly realized the impact these unique marketing efforts were having on his pool company, Sheridan decided to start a personal blog in November of 2009 detailing his online adventures, as well as the strategies he was discovering to attain so much success.
As you can likely guess, the name of this blog was The Sales Lion.
Since that time, Sheridan has become known as one of the premier thought-leaders within the digital sales and marketing space. And in conjunction with this, The Sales Lion community has grown into a very large one, with daily readers, watchers, and listeners from around the globe.
With the blog’s success, Sheridan naturally transitioned to coaching and consulting by 2011, as well as becoming a HubSpot partner that same year.
